Regulations

Flying a drone is a regulated activity. That means a responsible remote pilot must know and understand the regulations that govern their actions and behavior. Within the United States, even recreational drone pilots must comply with FAA rules and regulations unless they are granted an exception to the regulation by the FAA.
Exceptions may be revoked by the FAA or enforced via expensive financial penalties made to a drone pilot for a violation. The goal here is not to scare anyone, but to make sure all are aware of the responsibilities and risks remote pilots operate under when flying. To fly a drone within regulations entails building a working knowledge of the regulations. In the US, this is commonly referred to as part 107 for drone pilots.
Building and maintaining this working knowledge is an ongoing commitment that requires time and energy. What follows are a series of articles that document my journey into understanding part 107.
